‘Extreme caution’ urged on travellers to Sabah

Travellers have been warned to exercise “extreme caution” after details of a deadly assault on two tourists in a hotel in Malaysia emerged.

Two Taiwanese tourists were attacked in their room at the Sipadan Pom Pom Resort, off the coast of eastern Sabah.

A male tourist was killed and his wife kidnapped in the incident on Novembeer 15, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

“This incident highlights the ongoing risk to foreigners of kidnapping and criminality on the eastern coast of Sabah and in particular on the islands close to the Philippines border,” the FCO said in an updated travel advisory.

“We advise extreme caution on these islands and along the coastal areas.”
