The Office of Fair Trading is investigating the way agents sell travel insurance. The OFT said complaints from Direct Line had prompted it to look at whether selling procedures are restrictive or prevent competition. Examples include refusals by agents to confirm a holiday booking until travel insurance is bought or vetting policies bought elsewhere.

PJ Hayman managing director Peter Hayman has been appointed chairman of the Association of Travel Insurance Intermediaries. He takes over from Stephen Howard, who has held the position for two years.
