Bristol airport expects operations to return to normal tomorrow

Bristol airport expects operations to return to normal tomorrow (Saturday) following a power failure in the terminal which caused disruption throughout the day.

Check-in and baggage systems are now functioning but the earlier disruption may still cause knock-on effects for flights throughout the rest of the day, with an average delay time of two hours.

None of the 184 flights scheduled for today have been cancelled, with airlines bringing in additional aircraft and crew to support the operation and minimise disruption to passengers, according to the airport.

Initial investigations suggest the power failure was caused by a small electrical fire which also affected back-up power supplies.

“A full enquiry will be carried out to ensure measures can be taken to avoid any repeat of this situation in future,” an airport spokesman said.

“Bristol airport apologises for the inconvenience caused to passengers whose travel plans have been disrupted.

“Additional staff have been called in and all efforts have been made to keep passengers informed as updates become available.

“Refreshments have been offered in the form of bottled water and meal vouchers, and additional seating and free Wi-Fi access have been provided in the terminal.”
