Escorted tours operator Shearings has appointed a new chairman following its management buyout.
Phil White CBE (pictured left), who has spent much of his career in passenger transport, took up the position at the start of the week.
He was previously chief executive of bus, coach and rail operator National Express Group between 1997 and 2006.
His appointment follows a management buyout of the business last month with the backing of Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.
White said: “I’m delighted to be joining Shearings at such an exciting time in its journey.
“With a recovering economy, an unrivalled proposition and a clear growth strategy, the group is well placed to deliver on its ambitions. This is a business with both a proud past and a bright future.”
Denis Wormwell, chief executive of Shearings Group, said: “Phil has a glittering track record and brings many years of board level experience across a diverse range of sectors.
“Following the management buyout, his strategic counsel and guidance will be enormously valuable to the team as we implement our growth strategy and continue to take the business forward.”
