Hoseasons achieved record online sales day last weekend with UK bookings up 16% over the previous week.
Online and offline demand for domestic holidays reached peak levels compared to the same period in 2014.
Lodge holidays performed well with bookings up 17%, while boating holidays also started the year up 12%.
The most popular destination was the southwest with a 27% jump in sales – which accounted for nearly 50% of the total holiday searches on the company’s website.
Cornwall was the best overall performing county, with a 33% increase, followed by Devon with 23%.
Hoseasons managing director Simon Altham said: “2014 was a very good year for domestic tourism, and we often find this has a strong impact on early sales the following year as people book early to get the best choice and deals.
“The improving economy, the growth of short breaks and the quality of product all combine with those happy memories to give customers lots of reasons to take a break in the UK this year.
“We also believe that our rebrand and new marketing strategies are beginning to have an impact on the business, as we attract new audiences looking for their second or third holiday a little closer to home in top quality, stylish coastal and countryside settings.”
He added: “We believe this could be a key selling area for agents in the coming weeks, as customers book their main break, and are looking for other holiday ideas closer to home.”
