London City flights resume after runway repair

Flights resumed at London City airport after emergency work was carried out to the runway.

Services were disrupted yesterday when an “irregularity, like a stress fracture” was found during a routine inspection at around 6am.

Engineers repaired the surface and flights resumed “subject to delays and cancellations”, the airport said.

Flights were grounded for most of the morning, with operations starting to return to normal after the runway was re-opened at 11.45am.

Departing flights were cancelled or delayed while inbound aircraft were diverted to other airports including Stansted. About 50 flights were cancelled.
