SEAFORTHS Travel has become the first UKbusiness travel agent to be recognised as a low risk in a year 2000 business assessment survey.
The independent agent, which has branches in Aberdeen, Bracknell, London and Great Yarmouth, has been awarded a low-risk certificate by the National Computer Centre which has been advising the Government and businesses on the risks of the millennium bug since 1995.
In order to be awarded the certificate, Seaforths underwent a 2000 project audit and had to sign a pledge to undertake issues raised in the assessment.
Seaforths facilities manager Philip Jeffs said:”Any business which fails to properly prepare for the millennium could be in danger of committing commercial suicide.
“It is especially important to a company such as ours which is totally focused on technology and systems and for whom a failure caused by the millennium bug would be totally unacceptable.”
A spokesman for NCC said that 5% of companies have fallen into the high-risk category when being assessed for 2000 problems.
He said: “The 2000 low-risk certification eliminates the time-consuming task of replying to piles requests from customers on whether a business is 2000 compliant.”
