A Tunisian policeman has been shot dead in Sousse, the coastal resort where 38 holidaymakers were massacred by an Islamic State terrorist in June.

Three officers were targeted as they waited for transport on Wednesday in the attack carried out by gunmen on a motorbike, according to reports. The other two officers were unharmed.

Rafik Chelly, secretary of state for national security, said: “Unknown assailants fired on three policemen on a road. One of them was hit and died in hospital.”

An attack on holidaymakers in June saw 30 Britons killed and prompted the UK government to warn against all but essential travel to Tunisia.
