STENA Line has upgraded its Internet site to allow customers to book their travel on-line.
The ferry company has operated an information-only Web site for the last 12 monthsbut has now expanded its on-line ticketing service to UKcustomers.
However, the operator insists selling direct to the consumer will not have any impact on agents’ business.
Head of sales for the UK Heli Salmons said: “The sort of people who will be booking on-line are those who would have gone direct over the phone anyway because they are usually very familiar with the product.”
As well as providing booking facilities, the site will include updated ferry timetables and background travel information such as weather reports. There will also be information about the company’s tour operator Stena Line Holidays, enabling visitors to make brochure requests and eventually book holidays.
