Bomb threat diverts Lufthansa A380 aircraft

A Lufthansa Airbus A380 superjumbo from Texas to Germany was diverted to New York due to a bomb threat yesterday.

However, a search of the aircraft found no explosive device, officials said.

The flight from Houston to Frankfurt from Houston landed safely at JFK airport at about 8.30pm local time, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

All 530 passengers and crew were evacuated from the A380.

The bomb threat was phoned into the airline’s headquarters in Cologne.

A passenger who was on the flight told Reuters the pilot announced two to three hours after take-off that the flight had to be cancelled and diverted to New York due to a bomb threat.
