TRAVEL ’99 proved to be a useful recruitment tool for long-haul specialist Travelbag which is due to open its first regional sales office next month.
Travelbag filled several vacancies for sales consultants at its new site in Nutsford, Cheshire, after visitors to the operator’s stand were invited to attend interviews. Recruitment officer Kathyrn Manning said she was pleased with the calibre of people who visited the show.
“They seemed very clued up and interested. We were looking for people with sales, customer care and keyboard skills and a passion for travelling but not necessarily previous experience in travel.
“We invited eight people to attend an interview and five turned up which is good given that it was such short notice,” she said.
A four-week induction course for the first 28 employees begins this week. In total 60 people will be employed at the site.
“Some employers have reported difficulties finding suitable candidates in this region but we have not had any problems.
“We have turned few people down once they reached interview stage,” said Manning.
