Regions provide a flavour of an active year to follow


The ScotTISH Tourist Board stand partners at BTTF represent all sectors of the country’s tourism industry, from areatourist boards to attractions and accommodation.



On the Shetland Islands Tourism Board stand, details of this summer’s Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races will be available.



Many of the world’s finest sailing vessels will be in Lerwick on August 9 for the start of a four-day visit.



On the Perthshire Tourist Board stand, participants include Genturret Distillery, Scotland’s oldest distillery, and Caithness Glass Visitor Centre. Hotel newcomers are the Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie and the Drummond Arms at St. Fillans.



Sharing the Perthshire section is Dundee Heritage which will be promoting two new attractions – Discovery Point, where visitors can step aboard the ship that took Scott to the Antarctic in 1901, and Verdant Works , which tells the story of Victorian jute mill workers.



Glasgow will be at BTTF to highlight its designation this year as UK City of Architecture and Design. The flagship project is The Lighthouse which will feature a Charles Rennie Mackintosh interpretation and orientation centre, exhibition space and rooftop viewing platform and cafe.



Glasgow will also be home to the Millennium Commission’s Landmark project in Scotland which is the transformation of the football stadium Hampden Park into a national stadium and museum. It is due for completion in the autumn.



Details will also be available of the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races in Greenock from July 30-August 2.



New attractions being promoted by Edinburgh and Lothian’s Tourist Board include the Dean Gallery, Dynamic Earth, the Festival Centre and the Seabird Centre.



Of particular interest will be the developments planned around the new Scottish Parliament, and domestic operators will also be keen to get details of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo from August 6-28.



There will also be information on the former royal yacht Britannia, a recent addition to the city’s attractions. Chivas Brothers will be highlighting the participation of its three distilleries in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, which takes place from April 16-19 and the STB’s Autumn Gold campaign, promoting off-peak breaks to Scotland.
