ASURVEY by the British Incoming Tour Operators Association shows 82% of participating members want to see the euro adopted in the near future.
Companies were asked to base their reply on what they thought was best for the UK inbound tourism industry, not their personal views. Nearly 150 out of 330 took part in the postal vote last month.
BITOA chief executive Richard Tobias was surprised by the result, because only 55% were in favour a year ago.
“The general feeling is that we are part of Europe,” he said. “The vast majority of the UK’s inbound business is done with our European neighbours, and members feel if there is a common currency in most of Europe, we should be involved.”
