Direct Cruises pays out to Apollo clients

A SOLICITOR representing more than 300 passengers complaining of poor service on Direct Cruises’ voyages has secured undisclosed cash settlements for some clients.

Guy Brooks, of solicitors firm Fennemores, said passengers making claims relating to Apollo’s maiden cruise last year had been offered a choice between cash or a free cruise.

The offer was made by solicitors firm Norton Rose, which is representing both Direct and Royal Olympic Cruises, the owner of Apollo (Travel Weekly September 2 1998).

However, Brooks claimed those passengers who had opted for a free cruise were experiencing difficulty securing a definite booking.

He said he was still trying to secure a settlement for passengers complaining about other Direct cruises besides the first Apollo voyage.

Paul Williams, of Norton Rose, claimed offers had been made to all passengers represented by Fennemores.

However, some offers had been rejected, and he said negotiations were on going with these passengers.

Williams added that efforts were being made to check availability on behalf of those passengers who opted for a free cruise.
