Bavarian festivals
Munich: the Bavarian calendar is filled with more than 300 historic festivals, concerts and sporting events. The Munich Oktoberfest is the best known. This year the festival runs from September 18-October 3 when 6m visitors are expected
Nuremberg: hosts Germany’s most famous Christmas market, which runs from the third week of November until Christmas Eve. On offer are traditional goods such as mulled wine, gingerbread and arts and crafts including wooden christmas tree decorations.
Franconia: this area of northern Bavaria stages wine festivals in the summer and autumn.
Eastern Bavaria: the region’s decorative glassware will be on show at the first European Glass Festival in the town of Frauenau. The event runs from September 3-19.
