Thomas Cook has redesigned its on-line logo to give it a more modern look. The Thomas Cook name will now appear in lower case letters and ‘.com’ will appear inside the famous red brick. Surfers will be able to enter the site using either Web address, www.thomascook.com or the www.thomascook.co.uk.
n P&o web broadcast
The naming of P&O Cruises new superliner Aurora by HRH Princess Royal will be broadcast live on the Web for the first time in British history. The ceremony and Web launch will happen on April 27 in Southampton. Its maiden cruise is to the Mediterranean on May 1. The address is: www.pocruises.com.
n market conditions
Friendly Hotels chairman Andrew Speak has blamed challenging market conditions for a drop in profits last year. The group’s pre-tax profit last year was £4.4m, down from £6.9m in 1998. Speak said: “All companies like us showed no growth, but fingers crossed this will be a better year.”
n savoy makes us move
The Savoy Group has confirmed it is planning to open a 200-room hotel in New York. The group is in talks with US property developer Vornado Realty to open a $225m hotel on East 59th and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
n more resignations
Two more senior managers have resigned from Going Places Holiday Line. Sales development manager Richard Swift and commercial manager Angela Redmont resigned last week. The move follows the resignation of head of marketing, commercial and sales development Nigel Smith.
