Gatwick will operate flights to 172 destinations over this coming half-term break, 87% of the number it served in the same holiday period in 2019.
Next week will also see the launch of Bamboo Airways’ new route to Hanoi in Vietnam and an additional daily service to New York with JetBlue
Top destinations for half-term getaways include Dublin, Barcelona and Malaga, while Dubai, New York and Orlando top the long-haul charts.
Currently, the airport operates more than 50 weekly flights to the US.
Jonathan Pollard, Gatwick’s chief commercial officer, said: “We are really excited to see the number of destinations we fly to almost returning to pre-Covid levels.
“The summer was incredibly busy and we took steps to provide more certainty for passengers, including recruiting more than 400 new security staff, so we are well resourced for half-term and beyond.”
News of Gatwick’s recovery comes as the Advantage Travel Partnership reports a ‘huge appetite’ to travel ahead of half-term getaway.
