Paris airports face Olympics opening day strike threat

A threatened strike at airports serving Paris is has been timed to coincide with the start of the Olympic Games tomorrow (Friday). 

A union representing airport staff is plans that action on July 26-27 as part of a pay dispute.

The walkout is planned to start at 5am local time on Friday and run until 7am the following morning.

Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports could be hit by the industrial action on the day of the opening ceremony.

The strike notice has been filed by the Force Ouvrière (FO) union – which represents 11.5% of workers at the Paris airports, according to reports in France.

The exact size of the strike and number of staff likely to participate remains unclear, but the action could result in disruption to check-in, baggage handling and security services as well as other airport operations. 

Negotiations regarding pay are likely to continue and may resolve the dispute before it starts.
