Severe weather causes Amsterdam flight disruption

Severe winter weather has forced flight delays and cancellations today at Amsterdam Schiphol airport.

Authorities cancelled about 55 inbound and outbound flights and delayed 64 amid bad fog.

The Netherlands Royal Institute of Meteorology issued yellow fog and snow/ice warnings across much of the country.

Additional cancellations and delays are likely is the severe weather persists, according to local reports.

Knock-on delays are expected as the backlog is cleared, with disruption likely to run into tomorrow (Friday).

KLM said: “We’re currently facing operational issues for flights departing from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, leading to long waiting times at the airport.”

The airport’s arrivals and departures board showed dozens of delayed or cancelled flights today.
