Not Just Travel agent ‘so happy’ after fam trip proposal

A fam trip on the slopes in Colorado turned out to be a life-changing one for Not Just Travel agent Emily Maycock, after her partner of 19 years proposed to her in “the perfect way” on top of a mountain.

The couple were 3,600 metres above sea level in Aspen as part of a ski trip with 18 other consultants and staff members when Martin Good decided to pop the question.

“As soon as Emily told me that we were going on an incredible trip to Aspen I decided there and then that I was going to propose to her on top of a mountain,” said Martin.

“I had the ring designed by a lady in Cornwall and it’s in the shape of a mountain. I wasn’t nervous as I was just going to pick the perfect time during the trip.

“We had a group photo with a few of the other consultants, who are now good friends. After the group photo, I decided that was the right time. I shuffled along on my snowboard, got down on one knee, popped the question and Emily burst into tears and said ‘yes’.”

Emily said her partner “couldn’t have picked a more perfect place” to pop the question.

“I had no idea what he was about to do,” she said. “I was crying and shaking and so happy, but then had to get myself back down the mountain. It was a very shaky ride back down. Martin couldn’t have picked a more perfect place.

“Aspen will always remain in our hearts as a very special place. We plan to return with our son and friends and family.”

The trip, Not Just Travel’s first big team holiday of the year, was organised by American Affair, along with support from United Airlines and the Aspen, Denver and Colorado Tourist Boards.

The group enjoyed an action-packed itinerary that included lessons for first-time skiers, and time on a variety of runs for more experienced snow-lovers, as well as many of the wider cultural and tourist aspects of Aspen and Denver, including snowmobiling and sampling the dining and entertainment on offer.

Paul Harrison, co-founder of Not Just Travel, said: “Aspen is a romantic resort and Martin and Emily certainly proved it. We are thrilled for the couple; they are lovely people and deserve to be happy. Colorado has been a once in a lifetime trip for us all.

“We thoroughly immersed ourselves in the ski culture and all that Aspen and Denver have to offer. Both seasoned skiers and complete novices experienced first-hand the world-class slopes of Aspen.”
