Intrepid Travel to increase staff ownership programme

Intrepid Travel has announced plans to expand its employee ownership scheme.

About 5% of the company is currently owned by employees, but Intrepid is aiming to increase that this year by paying bonuses in the form of shares.

Zina Bencheikh, managing director EMEA, said the plans were revealed at Intrepid’s recent global summit where chief executive James Thornton outlined plans to significantly expand the programme by 2030.

“Around 5% of the company is owned by employees, but this year we’re going to be onboarding even more because we’re going to be paying bonuses in the form of shares to all our employees around the world”, Bencheikh told a Travel Weekly webcast.

“We know shareholders and key co-founders are very keen in having as many people within the company own part of the company because that drives motivation and engagement.

“It’s a pretty big innovation for us as a business and long-term it’s good for the business.”
