Japan to drop all Covid entry rules from April 29

Japan will drop all Covid entry restrictions from on Saturday (April 29).

The country initially planned to remove Covid measures from May 8, but has brought the date forward.

From tomorrow, travellers who are fully jabbed will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination, while unvaccinated arrivals will not need to take a Covid test prior to entry.

The Japan National Tourism Organisation said: “All border measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 will be lifted on April 29, 2023.”

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office website has been updated to reflect the rule change.

It states: “All travellers arriving into Japan from April 29 will no longer be required to show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination or a Covid-19 test result for travellers who are not vaccinated.”

However, it added: “Rules may be subject to change at short notice.”
