Sporting legends to join Scenic’s Olympic-themed river cruise

Sir Steve Redgrave and Daley Thompson are to join a special Olympic-themed river cruise to France with Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours.

The cruise, just ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, is one of a host of additions to Scenic’s river cruise programme, with some European itineraries extended and Utrecht in Amsterdam and Tournon in France added as ports of call.

The Sporting Legends Cruise: Paris & Seine Edition departs on July 8 and will be joined at Roche-Guyon by rowing champion Redgrave, a five-time gold medalist, and decathlon gold medalist Thompson.

The pair will be on board for question-and-answer sessions on how they made it to the top of their respective sports and there will be the chance to receive a signed keepsake. The cruise is priced from £4,395.

Other new itineraries, designed to offer a more leisurely pace and extended time in port, are the eight-day Iconic Danube itinerary, starting in Passau, from £2,080, and the ten-day Danube in Depth, from £2,600, which includes a cycle ride or paddle tour, beer cellar trip in Nuremberg, and visits to Passau and Regensburg.

Scenic has also boosted its ‘enrich’ experiences programme offering unusual and VIP excursions. New highlights include a gala dinner and music in the concert hall that Mozart premiered The Magic Flute in 1793 and an after-hours trip to digital art centre Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam.

Other new excursions for next year include the city of Colmar, on the Alsace Wine Route cruise and an indepth city tour of Budapest including its parliament building.
