Travel Counsellors’ latest careers guide aims to retain talent in travel sector

Travel Counsellors has brought out its latest careers guide to help inspire and advise all travel professionals on their next job move.

The company’s latest edition of the Careers Management Guide includes information on how travel agents can restore their confidence and assess their skillset to how they can optimise their LinkedIn profile and prepare for interviews.

It is hoped the guide will stop agents from moving out of the travel industry, according to Travel Counsellors head of recruitment Matt Harding, and is available as a free resource to any agents in the sector.

He said: “Our aim is to retain experience and talent within the travel sector, to keep people who care about their customers within an industry they love.”

He added: “By further developing this guide, Travel Counsellors hope to provide guidance and support to help travel professionals make decisions that will positively shape their future career.

“There is no requirement to submit any contact details and there are no expectations to pursue a career with Travel Counsellors. As an organisation with a ‘people first’ culture, we simply want to support travel professionals to take positive steps to move their career in the right direction.

“We encourage anyone who is facing an uncertain future to get in touch, as we can support in many different ways, at what is a difficult time for the industry.”

The launch follows an increase in travel professionals asking for advice as a result of a “steady stream” of new business launches at Travel Counsellors, with more than 175 new business owners starting their own new ventures since March 2020.

Harding said: “As the government furlough scheme draws to a close, we are experiencing an increase in travel professionals asking for advice about their next move.

“Whether people are looking for further information about launching a new business with us, or for more general advice on where they want to take their career next, our intention is to support experienced agents to find the best way forward for them, whether that’s by launching a new corporate or leisure business with us or finding a path elsewhere that’s personal to them. “

Meanwhile, Travel Counsellors said new bookings were currently running at levels comparable to 2019, with Spain the most popular destination and the US, Caribbean and United Arab Emirates also strong for winter.
