Red Savannah recruits operating chief as sales surpass pre-Covid levels

Luxury operator Red Savannah has named former Abercrombie & Kent European sales director Ian Mackinnon as chief operating officer.

The appointment came as the company reported record growth for the second year in succession, with sales exceeding $20 million, a 41% increase over pre-pandemic 2019.

The number of staff employed is now almost double pre-Covid levels.

New itineraries introduced by the company include Mustang in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malta, Panama, Scotland and South Africa, plus additional villas in destinations such as France and Spain.

Red Savannah hailed Mackinnon as bringing strategic leadership and operational expertise to further enhance its commitment to delivering unparalleled luxury travel experiences.

Mackinnon joins from South American specialist Explora where he was  business development and new ventures director. He previously worked for A&K from 2008 as well as roles at Hotels.com and Scott Dunn.

Red Savannah founder and chief executive George Morgan-Grenville said: “We are both humbled and excited by the extraordinary growth we have seen over the last two years.

“We see this as a direct result of our unrelenting focus on maintaining cutting edge product designed by some of the most experienced travel designers in the luxury travel industry.

The Red Savannah brand has become a hallmark, not simply of experience, but also of generosity of spirit with ‘nickel and diming’ being the antithesis of what today’s luxury traveller desires.”

He added: “We are delighted to welcome Ian Mackinnon to the Red Savannah team.

“We believe his strategic vision will contribute significantly to our ongoing success and the delivery of exceptional travel experiences for our clients.”
