THE European Travel Commission has launched a website to
provide the tourism industry with free information on web usage in 54
countries.
The ‘New Media Monitor’ monitors over 80 sources of
statistics in order to track how Internet usage is growing in each country. In
particular, it tracks how the web is being used for on-line travel planning and
booking.
In addition, the website tracks the penetration of mobile
Internet devices and interactive TV as well as access to personal computers.
A spokesman for the British Tourist Authority, which was
involved in the development of the website, said: “This is an easy way to view
and compare trends in different markets so that we can establish marketing
priorities in a more informed manner.”
The website can be found at www.etcmonitor.com.
