SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPICS


Date and location: the 2000 Olympic Games takes place in Sydney, Australia, from September 15-October 1.


Tour prices: rates with Sportsworld start from £1,895 for six nights including flights, transfers and accommodation and rise to £5,235 for 18 nights.


Ticket prices: range from £6 for baseball to £600 for a seat at the opening or closing ceremonies. The average price of a ticket is around £50. Free spectator events include yachting in Sydney Harbour, cycling, the marathon and the triathlon.


Most popular stopover destination: a two-night break is Singapore, followed by Bangkok and Hong Kong.


Most popular pre/post add-on in Australia: a visit to the Great Barrier Reef, followed by a combined itinerary taking in Ayers Rock and Alice Springs. City stopovers to Melbourne, Perth, plus Adelaide for its wineries, are also popular.


Most complicated itinerary: Sportsworld has arranged a two-month trip which features 26 flight sectors and includes stops at the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Hong Kong, Sydney and various Australian side trips, followed by Auckland, returning via South America and Los Angeles to the UK.
