Lunn Poly’s Price is beat

LUNN Poly shops have stopped undercutting rivals
permanently by withdrawing Pricebeat.

The scheme allowed Lunn Poly to undercut rivals’ prices
and came under fire during the January peak booking period from
competitors unable to compete on the high street.

New TUI UK retail and commercial director Derek Jones admitted
the chain had lost some business when it withdrew Pricebeat on a
trial basis, with rival Thomas Cook using the opportunity to put
out a £10 per person price beat offer.

“I’ve no doubt some customers went elsewhere. We always
knew that would happen,” said Jones.

But he is confident Lunn Poly staff can win sales through
“skills, knowledge and personality” and new operator discounts now
available.

Meanwhile, TUI UK’s agents have been told the future size
of the network lies in their hands.

Director of sales and marketing Miles Morgan said the reduction
in shops would be gradual, as around 50 leases come up for renewal
annually.

“Any shop’s fate is in the hands of staff,” he said.

  • The 90-day consultation for 3,200 employees, not including shop
staff, to cut 800 jobs starts on October 20.
