Covid hits Ryanair and Wizz Air November carryings

Ryanair saw carryings slump by 82% to two million passengers in the month from 10.9 million in November 2019 as it was hit by Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The airline’s rolling annual total was down by 60% to 61.4 million.

Wizz Air flew less than 500,000 passengers in November as the Covid-19 crisis saw capacity slashed.

The eastern and central European budget carrier reported an 85% year-on-year fall in passenger carryings from almost three million in the same month last yedar as it operated just 21% of its usual capacity at 670,000 seats.

The load factor was down by almost 25 percentage points to less than 70% in the month.

The November performance gave the airline a rolling 12 month total of 19.3 million passengers – half the previous year’s figure.

Emissions in grams per passenger/km were 21% higher than the same month last year due to the drop in load factor, while total CO2 emissions in tonnes decreased at a slightly higher rate than capacity, the carrier reported.

Wizz Air announced three new domestic routes in Norway, bringing the number up to 15.
