Independents act on Ryanair fee warning

INDEPENDENT agents are taking revenge on Ryanair for its anti-service fee stance by refusing to sell the airline.

Lipscombe Travel co-director Mandy Lipscombe said she had sent her International Air Transport Association plates back to the airline after hearing of the commission cut to 5%.

Midconsort chief executive Sue Foxall is advising members to stop selling Ryanair because it has threatened to take action against agents that impose a fee.

Going Places has temporarily stopped selling Ryanair, blaming incompatibility between the two company’s booking systems. The low-cost carrier has switched from British Airways’ BABS system to Open Skies, which is not compatible with Going Places’ Worldspan reservation system.
