Power failure hits Bristol airport

At least 2,000 passengers faced delays to departing flights due to an early morning power failure in the terminal at Bristol airport.

At least 15 flights due to leave in the busy ‘first wave’ of departures between 6am and 7am this morning were affected.

The failure occurred at 3am affecting all IT systems and security checks. Engineers were on the scene attempting to restore power.

An airport spokesman said passengers were queuing inside the terminal building and were also outside waiting to get in. Water was being distributed to affected passengers.

Airlines with flights due to depart from Bristol early this morning included Thomson Airways, easyJet, Brussels Airlines, Ryanair, KLM, Thomas Cook Airways and BMI Regional.

The airport used its Twitter feed to alert passengers to the problem.

Passengers were being advised to check-in as normal but to be prepared for some flight delays.

An airport spokesman said: “Additional airport staff have been called in to assist passengers in the terminal and bottled water is being provided.

“The power failure impacted check-in, baggage and lighting systems in the terminal but all airside and air traffic systems remained operating as normal. Power has been partially restored, but some systems remain affected.

“Passengers with hand baggage only are being processed through security search. Bristol airport apologises for the inconvenience to passengers and flight disruption.”
