Going Places has become the latest travel retailer to join forces with an interactive digital television service, allowing viewers to book holidays through their TV screens.
From this autumn anyone with digital television will be able to access a series of Going Places screens enabling them to see video clips of destinations, resorts, hotels and access information on flights. Consumers will be able to book simply using their remote control.
Going Places managing director Peter Shanks said: “This is a hugely exciting development for Going Places. We are always seeking new forms of distribution and we have already established a strong presence on TV with our Teletext activity.”
The service, known as Open, has been created by British Interactive Broadcasting. It will provide home shopping, banking, games and e-mail services. Other retailers selling through Open include Somerfield, WH Smith and Abbey National. Open will not be limited to a single agency chain.
