More European countries relax rules for UK arrivals

Germany has relaxed its entry rules for arrivals from the UK, after it downgraded the ‘high-risk’ designation for the UK.

Slovakia has also relaxed its Covid requirements, meaning entry is now permitted for fully vaccinated travellers from the UK regardless of any close connection to Slovakia.

Germany’s change came into force on Sunday (February 20) and means travellers from the UK no longer need to complete pre-departure digital registration.

Previously, travellers entering Germany from a high-risk area were required to complete pre-departure digital registration, regardless of vaccination status.

Travellers arriving from high-risk areas who are not fully vaccinated were subject to 10-day quarantine. Fully vaccinated and recovered individuals were exempt from this requirement, once they uploaded their proof of status on the pre-departure digital registration portal.

Now all travellers aged six or over entering Germany must carry with them a negative test result or proof of vaccination or recovery.

Arrivals may enter Germany from the UK for any travel purpose if they are fully vaccinated.

• Elsewhere, the Israeli prime minister’s office has confirmed Israel will begin allowing entry to all tourists, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated against Covid-19, from March 1.

Under the new guidelines, tourists of all ages, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, will be allowed to enter Israel, as long as they submit a negative PCR before boarding and take another PCR after landing.

Currently only Covid-19 vaccinated foreigners are allowed into Israel, following the country first shutting its borders to foreigners in March 2020.

The announcement came after the health ministry last week recommended easing Covid-19 restrictions.
