New York increases multicultural promotion with first Halal guide

New York has become the first US destination to produce a Halal Travel Guide to attract more Muslim visitors.

The guide has been produced as part of an active move to embrace and showcase the city’s diverse population and reflects a Muslim history spanning around 400 years.

Other multicultural guides featured on NYC & Company’s NYCGO website include focuses on the Black, Latino and Asian experience in NYC alongside updated information on LGBTQ+ NYC and Accessible NYC.

Further activity to promote the city’s five boroughs include the ongoing “Like a New Yorker” campaign, which features insight on how to explore areas of the city beyond traditional sights.

Speaking at the IPW Conference in Orlando, NYC & Company chief executive Fred Dixon predicted the city would reach 80% of pre-pandemic visitor levels by the end of this year.

In April, Dixon told Travel Weekly he expected to welcome 751,000 visitors from the UK this year, compared to 1.27 million in 2019, and projected just under 1.1 million would visit in 2023

Speaking on Tuesday, he said: “New York City is experiencing an extraordinary revival, with the iconic sites visitors know and love, plus many dynamic, new developments across all five boroughs.

“NYC is back in a big way and is already welcoming visitors from around the globe.”
