Australian flag-carrier Qantas says it is still on track to resume services to the UK before the end of the year.
Earlier this week, Australia extended its ban on overseas travel by another three months, taking the resumption of international flights to mid-December.
Qantas had already earmarked mid-December for the restart of flights to the UK and other long-haul destination and has reassured customers in an email, seen by the Telegraph.
“With vaccinations continuing to roll out across Australia, we are getting ready to reunite our customers with their family, friends, colleagues and favourite destinations around the globe,” said the email from Qantas Group chief executive Alan Joyce.
“Some people might say we’re being too optimistic, but based on the pace of the vaccine rollout, this is within reach and we want to make sure we’re ready.”
The Telegraph said 60% of the Australian population have been given their first dose of a vaccine, while 35% are now double jabbed.
“This follows news that Britain is rushing four million Pfizer doses to Australia, where authorities are scrambling to bolster supplies of the Covid-19 vaccine and protect the population against a rapidly spreading outbreak of the delta variant,” the newspaper added.
