Wizz Air records soaring April carryings

Wizz Air saw a 543% year-on-year rise in April passenger carryings with the help of new routes from Cardiff and Luton airports.

The eastern and central European budget carrier flew more than 3.6 million passenger last month – including the Easter period – against 564,634 in April 2021.

The improved performance was achieved with a load factor of 83.4%.

The carrier expanded its network by starting services from Wales and acquiring two daily slot pairs from Spanish rival Vueling at Luton.

The expansion included the addition of 167,000 seats, reinforcing Wizz Air’s position as the largest operator at Luton airport with more than 5.6 million seats for the summer.

New routes were also announced across its network from Italy, Romania, Poland, Lithuania and Bosnia and Hercegovina to destinations including Greece, Germany, Denmark and Croatia.
