Half of regular skiers say they can’t afford their annual winter ski trip this year, according to research from travel debit card Currensea.
More than half (58%) of those who usually go on a ski trip said they would still like to take one this year but say they are concerned about cost, a survey of 2,000 UK adults found.
Almost two-thirds (64%) of skiers will cut down on spending while on holiday, and 60% are looking at booking a shorter trip.
Just over half (57%) are exploring more cost-effective destinations for a ski trip.
The poll also found that 46% said they don’t know anyone planning a ski trip this year and 46% say they are not going on ski trip as they are prioritising a summer holiday next year instead.
James Lynn, chief executive at Currensea, said: “It’s not surprising to see seasoned skiers reconsidering their annual trips amid the current climate.
“For those looking at more cost-effective ski destinations, it’s worth thinking outside the box in places like Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland and Bulgaria which can offer skiers more bang for their buck.
“Travellers should also spend some time to consider their holiday payment methods to ensure they are getting the best value for money and aren’t caught out by any hidden fees.”
