Tobago’s tourism board will offer agent training days in 2023.
Stephen Smith, sales and marketing manager for the Tobago Tourism Agency, has revealed plans to train agents to better sell the Caribbean island destination from next year.
He said Tobago is “struggling” to reach its pre-pandemic visitor numbers and, as the UK is the island’s number one source market, wants to help agents to promote the destination to their customers.

Speaking to Travel Weekly at a showcase held by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation in London – at which the Tobago Tourism Agency was the headline partner – Smith said he hopes to boost Tobago’s visitor numbers from customers who are looking for an “authentic and not overly developed destination which is all about being close to nature”.
Smith said: “In the new year, I will be available to visit any travel agencies or tour operators in the country that are interested in doing Tobago open days.
“During those days, I can train staff on the things they should be saying to their customers to highlight all the amazing reasons they should visit the island.
“Additionally, if the agencies want to invite any customers they think might be interested in a Tobago trip, I am more than happy to speak directly to them.
“I can even bring in some rum and chocolate and give their clientele a chance to meet a Tobago expert.”
