Airtours plans further deals

AIRTOURS has vowed to continue its expansion across Europe and North America after predicting further consolidation in both markets.

Chairman David Crossland said it was ready to secure further deals as the opportunities arise.

At its annual general meeting, the operator reported encouraging bookings in the UK with winter 1999/2000 up 6% and summer 2000 up 20% over the previous year.

Scandinavia however, after an exceptional 1999, is showing a 20% dip for summer 2000 with winter down 4%.

Crossland blamed the fall on an increase in brochure prices to offset the abolition of duty free and increase in fuel prices.

Winter bookings for the newly formed European Leisure Group, which incorporates West European Leisure Group and its Germany operator FTi, are 62% ahead of last year with summer up 45%.
