Nice little runner is perfect addition to weekend break
FOR a 30-year-old car, the Aston Martin DB6 Vantage really did go – and it caused a sensation wherever we went.
I had hired my partner Matt the £50,000 metallic grey Vantage as a birthday present. He was ecstatic but understandably a little nervous.
Armed with a detailed map with suggested places to stop en route, we were soon feeling more confident of our charge and headed off to explore the Suffolk countryside.
The best bit was the roar of the engine and the way it threw us back into the blood-red leather seats as we sped along the country roads. We weren’t the only ones enjoying the experience. We were attracting a lot of attention from passers-by – particularly ones of the male persuasion who often did double takes as we sped past.
The first day of our weekend break we took advantage of the sunny weather and headed for the Victorian town of Southwold. After a good day’s touring we found the perfect retreat in the form of the Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds, a former 15th Coaching Inn where Charles Dickens reportedly wrote Mr Pickwick’s Papers.
The second day we explored the medieval village of Lavenham and Constable Country, stopping off at Flatford Mills to view some of the famous painter’s artwork before reluctantly returning the car.
