New Zealand hires Lord of the Rings effects team for new campaign

Tourism New Zealand is to launch a new marketing campaign that will focus on the destination as the youngest human society on earth.

The campaign features an animated film by Weta Digital, the visual effects facility behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong. The film illustrates the tale of Maui the demigod hauling the North Island from the sea.

Tourism New Zealand chief executive George Hickton said, “New Zealand was the last country on earth to be settled, so visitors can experience life as it should be.”

“This is a unique selling point for New Zealand and our youth sums up what visitors experience when they come here.”

Tourism New Zealand plans to use technology to help target the overseas market. “One of the main changes will be to embrace new technology and to provide content to people when they want it, where they want it, how they want it,” Hickton said.

The campaign is due to launch next month.
